Dreamworld Disaster: Police Say It's A "Miracle" That There Are Survivors At All

Investigations are currently underway into the ride malfunction at Dreamworld on the Gold Coast yesterday.
The ABC reports police consider it a miracle that two children survived Queensland's worst theme park tragedy, where four people have died in a tragic accident at Dreamworld on the Gold Coast.
A boy and girl, aged 10 and 12, were on the same raft but managed to escape the disaster. Police Assistance Commissioner Brian Codd said, "It is almost a miracle that anybody came out of that."
Adding that, perhaps, it was through the "providence of God" that they escaped death.
More details are slowly emerging, including a website alert that the ride was due to shut down for scheduled "annual maintenance" on Tuesday, October 25.
Pedestrian confirms the Dreamworld website listed a maintenance alert about the "Thunder River Rapids" ride on the day of the accident. The post read: "This ride will be closed for annual maintenance from Tuesday 25 October through to Monday 31 October 2016 inclusive."
The text in question has since been removed from the website, with a message reading, "dates currently not available." Dreamworld says the initial notification was simply an "automated message" triggered by the closing of the ride.
A woman told Nine News about problems with the ride earlier in the day, saying, "we were waiting there for about half an hour and engineers had to come."
"They drained all the water out and then had to fill it all back up... we were stuck there for about 30-40 minutes at least."
As the investigation continues, family members of the victims have come forward, including Mother, Kim Dorsett.
Her children, Kate Goodchild and Luke Dorsett lost their lives to the malfunctioning ride. Luke Dorsett's partner, Roozbeh Araghi, also passed away.
"I have three children and have lost two of them today - my whole family has been wiped out," she said. "They really were just wonderful people - that would be the best way to describe them. They were kind, loving souls that would honestly do anything for anyone."
More updates as they come.
