Don't Put Your $67 Million Lottery Ticket In The Wash, Like This Lady Claims She Did

A German woman based in Worcestershire, England claims she is the owner of a lottery ticket entitling her to a £33 million ($AUD67 million) booty.
There’s just one problem: she says she accidentally put the ticket in the wash - she left it in her jean pocket, apparently - and now the barcode and date of purchase is illegible. According to The London Telegraph, grandmother of four Susanne Hinte, 48, has submitted her crumpled, washer-stained ticket for verification to Camelot, the company who operates the National Lottery in the UK. But Camelot has already ruled her out as the winner, despite one half of the £33 million jackpot still going unclaimed. The company reportedly understands precisely where and when the winning ticket was purchased. So sure are they that Susanne Hinte isn’t the lucky victor, they didn’t even bother requesting the CCTV footage confirming her purchase of the ticket. The newsagent who sold the ticket to Hinte has offered to surrender the CCTV footage, assuring Camelot that “it’ll show her buying it and the numbers.” However, a friend of Hinte has since told The Sun she doubts the veracity of the ticket in question. “I think she bought a later ticket after the day she says she had,” the friend said. Another acquaintance has told of a previous time in which Hinte attempted to claim a scratchie that had been dropped in a puddle. (If Hinte is indeed telling the truth, she is definitely a klutz.) Susanne Hinte was accused in January 2015 of stealing a handbag from a home and will face court on March 1 on two counts of theft. So, yeah, this all seems pretty fishy. Take one lesson away from all of this: Check your jean pockets before you pop them in the wash. Who knows what you'll find?Topics
