It Took 174 Days for a Melbourne Punter to Realise They Won $55 Mil in the Lottery

You can do a lot of things in 174 days.

Heck, Kanye produced and released five albums in less time.

But it nonetheless took a mystery Melbourne punter 25 weeks to realise they won $55 million in a lottery draw conducted on 11 January of this year.

According to the Herald Sun, the ticket-holder (who is remaining anonymous) rocked up to the Tattslotto office yesterday morning to claim their prize, after six long months. If the booty hadn’t been collected within the next week, the money would have been forwarded to the State Revenue Office Victoria.

Back in June, Powerball held a "Memory Jog" around Brunswick, to "jog" the memory of anyone who may have bought a ticket and get them to double-check if they'd, you know, won enough money to buy 66 houses.

The paper also points out the person could have earned a further $777,000 in interest had they collected the money six months earlier, but instead, they’ll just have to make do with the original $55m.

A few cheeky individuals had previously rocked up to falsely claim the prize, suggesting their "dog ate the ticket", but apparently, when you’re asking someone to give you $55 million, you need better evidence?

Anyway, the winning ticket was purchased from Brunswick’s Scole Lotto and News, in case you want to earmark your next lottery purchase location.
