"Crash Bandicoot 4" is Coming to PS4 and Xbox One This October

Pull out your jean shorts, because the Crash saga ain’t over.

If you figured that The Last of Us Part II and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater would be the last gasps of the PS4 era before the PS5 arrives, well, you were wrong.

Today, Activision released a trailer for Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, which will be released to the PS4 and Xbox One this October, offering the current generation of gaming platforms one final (maybe?) hurrah before Christmas.

Intriguingly, as even the trailer jokes, this new game ignores everything that happened in the Crash Bandicoot franchise since the original trilogy (which was recently remastered and re-released to rave reviews for this gaming gen in 2017). That’s gonna be welcome news to anyone who ignored basically everything after Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped (which really helped Crash peak with jet skis), but keep in mind this latest game doesn’t come from Naughty Dog, the original publishers, but instead Activision, who were behind Team Racing: Nitro Fuelled.

Crash 4 offers Retro mode, which, from the trailer, looks similar to the run-and-jump adventure you’re familiar with, and Modern mode, which offers you infinite lives but counts how many times you die per level, and rewards you accordingly.

But beyond that advancement, this trailer promises to offer the old school delights of the original PS One and PS2 eras, right down to the music. I mean, Fatboy Slim’s "Rockafella Skank" soundtracking a game trailer in the Year of Our Lord 2020? Did we accidentally put on a Time Mask and travel back to 1998?

Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time arrives on PS4 and Xbox One on 2 October.
