How to Combo in "Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2" (Using Revert and Manuals) for Huge Points

We’re talking six-figure combos here.

It’s important, before we discuss anything Tony Hawk related, that you start cranking this:

Okay, now we can get started.

If you picked up the latest and insanely addictive remaster of the iconic Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 + 2 on either PS4, Xbox One or PC, it’s safe to say you’ve been doing little else but playing it ever since.

Maybe you’re unlocking those classic levels at a frightening pace. Maybe you’re staying put in the Warehouse because it’s just so good to be back. Maybe you’re stuck trying to find the School’s blasted fifth bell!

Well, whatever and however you play Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater, we need to tell you that it’s more than just the graphics that have been updated for 2020: a new control has been added that’ll let you do combos like you never have before, accumulating tens of thousands of points in a few seconds.

It’s called 'revert'. Get used to it.

'Revert' is a simple move that was first introduced in Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3, and is a play on 'vert skateboarding', which is the vertical style of skateboarding used in ramps and half-pipes.

'Revert' basically allows you to stack vert tricks on top of one another with ease, allowing you to link together a huge combo beginning with your first vert trick.

Back in the ancient, dark days of 1999, when Tony Hawk Pro Skater was launched, a combo would end as soon as the player’s wheels touched the ground. But Tony Hawk himself put an end to that, insisting that 'revert' be added to the OG games on re-release. Now, by hitting L2 on the PS4 and LT on Xbox, you can 'revert' and transition into a nose manual or kickflip/heelflip to keep the combo running, adding in grinds and more vert tricks until your points tally is in six figures.

See it in action below:

Your eyes do not deceive you. The player in that video got 234,000 points off one x27 combo. Thank you, Tony, for bestowing us this gift of revert!

Fun fact: Manuals, which involve you balancing on the ground to keep a combo going, was only introduced in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2, so reverting into a manual in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater is guaranteed to give you high-point combos like you've never seen in this game before. To manual, simply press up then down on flat before landing.

The PlayStation Blog also has some tips for extending your combo. They include adding more ‘special tricks’ rather than your basic grinds and flips; taking tours of the parks to find out where all the 'Stat Points' are, as they boost your player’s attributes; customising your player’s combo style and sticking to it; and spending some time watching pro players online. Finally, homework we’re happy to do.
