Australian Olympian and golfer Cameron Smith has captured the hearts of the nation with his iconic mullet hairstyle at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

Truth be told, Smith has been a big supporter of the ‘bussiness at the front, party at the rear’ hairstyle for a while now, letting his hair grow out since the start of the year. Only now—with a little help from the global stage of the Games—has the mullet gained the mainstream attention it deserves (and we’re glad it did).

It’s not any ordinary mullet though; Smith has shaved the letters AUS into the side of his head to give it some nationalistic flair, and honestly, we love him for it.

If you’re wondering what inspired the golfer to take such a patriotic risk with his hair, the allure of the Games was all the inspiration he needed.

“Yeah, I mean, it’s the Olympics. It doesn’t happen too often. I thought I would give Australia a shoutout on the side of the melon,” Smith said to Channel Seven.

“I thought about it for a few weeks beforehand and then I just said ‘stuff it,’ I’m going to do it, and I think it’s been received pretty good.”

Despite gaining a heap of new fans with his iconic cut, Smith admits his mum isn’t the biggest fan of what he’s done with his hair.

“My mum called me up. She was laughing,” Smith said.

“She was like, ‘Oh, you were just on the news.’ Called me all sorts of names, but she loved it and she loves that it brings a lot of, I guess, joy. It puts a smile on people’s faces.”

With Smith’s ultimate Aussie mullet, we’re pretty sure this solidifies the iconic cut’s comeback into mainstream fashion.
