Brisbane Looks Set to Host the 2032 Olympic Games

The final vote will be announced tonight.

With the opening ceremony for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games days away, Brisbane are just hours from finding out if their bid to host the 2032 Games will be successful.

The Queensland capital—which is the only candidate left in the running—has just one final hurdle to clear before it becomes official: win majority of the votes when the 102 International Olympic Committee members meet on Wednesday afternoon in Tokyo.

If successful in their bid, Brisbane will mark the third time the Olympics has come down under with Melbourne hosting in 1956 and Sydney in 2000 (easily one of the best games ever).

To bolster the state's chances, State Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk, federal Sports Minister Richard Colbeck and Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner are in Japan to make one final pitch to the committee before they vote.

(I recommend a sharp looking power point presentation with cool fonts. Works every time.)

The vote is scheduled to be announced at 6:30pm (AEST) and if the QLD team hit it out of the park, expect Brisbane to be declared the winner.

Side note: get in early and book some accommodation in Brisvegas before they start charging more ‘cos they defs will.

Before you get booking though, IOC communications director Mark Adams has warned that the bid could be derailed at the last minute.

“This is not a done deal because it’s still up to the session to decide,” Adams advised.

“They can decide to put the issue back in the pot—there are still a number of interested cities.”

Those cities in question are in Qatar, India, Spain, Germany and Indonesia but none of their bids made it past the IOC approval stage, so I don’t think we have to worry too much.

For those living in Brisbane, expect a fireworks display if the city is crowned the host of the 2032 Games with Tourism and Sports Minister Stirling Hinchcliffe saying green and gold will be splashed across the city.

Ngl, I'm a little bit excited to have the Olympics come back to Australia. C’mon Brissie!
