Ariarne Titmus Won Gold in Tokyo and Her Swimming Coach's Reaction Is a Whole Vibe

A true Aussie icon.

Australian Olympic swimmer Ariarne Titmus has won the gold medal in the 400m freestyle final at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, beating American favourite Katie Ledecky to produce one of the greatest moments in Aussie Olympic history.

While Titmus has now signaled her arrival on the global swimming stage, it’s her coach Dean Boxall that has captured the hearts of viewers worldwide for his ballistic celebration as Titmus edged out Ladecky.

The video, which has now gone viral, shows swim coach Boxall in the grandstand fist pumping wildly, screaming for joy, ripping off his face mask (we don’t advise this but love his enthusiasm) and then grabbing onto the guard rail and thrusting repeatedly into it like he just doesn’t care.

Honestly, I’ll have what Boxall’s having ‘cos he’s living life on a whole new level.

Speaking about her coach’s reaction, Titmus said that Boxall is the kind of guy that wears his heart on his sleeve.

“That’s just the way Dean is,” the 20-year-old swimmer said.

“He is just so passionate about what he does, he becomes so animated.”

His reaction aside, Titmus told Channel Seven she is thankful for the coach for helping her get to the Games.

“He means everything to me. Coming into this race we knew what we had to do. We didn’t discuss what I wanted to do in the pool, it was more of a ‘have fun’ moment, ‘I love you, have fun.'”

By the time the young Aussie had climbed the podium to accept her gold medal, Boxall was in the crowd sobbing with tears of joy.

“It was actually hard to contain it. I could see Dean on the other side bawling his eyes out. You don’t see that often so that made me want to tear up.”

Okay, someone pass the tissues please.
