Here's How You Can Make Bank This Summer Working in Regional WA

The perfect end of semester gig.
This post is presented in partnership with CBH.
Once Semester 2 and exams are done this year, uni students in Western Australia are gonna have a lot more free time on their hands.
If that’s you, then chances are you’re keen to pick up some extra work to top up the bank account before uni goes back.
The only thing standing in your way is finding that extra work.
Enter CBH.
They’re a WA company that employ young people for seasonal work during the grain harvest season and they’re looking for casual workers for the summer.
With awesome locations and a killer hourly rate starting at $29, working this harvest could be just the summer vibe you're looking for.

So, what kinda work is it?
CBH manage sites across regional WA where growers of wheat, oats and barley drop off their grain. They need harvest casuals to help keep these sites moving so farmers and transporters can drop grain off safely and quickly so they can get back to harvesting.
That’s where you come in.
You could be doing a range of tasks on these sites to help out like sampling grain, recording the weights of trucks coming in and out, container packing, grain cleaning and a heap of other jobs.
They might seem like boring jobs, but you’ll defs learn a bunch of skills that will look good on your resume.
How much moolah will I get?
Here’s the sweetener: harvest casuals’ starting hourly rate is $29! That’s just the starting rate too, so who knows where that could lead?
To cap that off, you’ll get paid for completing all training.
The only thing you need to know is that shifts can be up to 12 hours long, and ‘cos CBH operate 7 days-a-week, you could be working 13 days out of a 14-day period.
That might sound crazy hard, but because of our fave 'lil friend called penalty rates, that also could put more than $4,524 in your pocket. Dayum.
New car anyone?
Where is it located in WA?
One of the best parts about being a harvest casual is it gets you out of the city and into WA’s amazing countryside. CBH have sites all over the state, going as south as Albany and Esperance, all the way up to Geraldton.
If you’re wanting to do a road trip, adding a couple of weeks of harvesting in the middle is a sweet way to get some extra money for your adventure.
Side note: the beaches down south are incredible during that time of year.
Can I do it with friends?
Have you ever thought about how much better work would be if it was with your friends? Ngl, we have.
The cool thing is CBH could make this dream a reality if you and your mate choose the same zone and site when applying.
Though it’s never a sure thing you will be working with them, it will defs improve your chances of working alongside your friends.

Wait, where am I gonna sleep?
Don’t stress ‘cos CBH have got that covered too. Some sites have accommodation available, so all you need to do is say in your application that you’ll need somewhere to stay and CBH will do the rest.
If you don’t wanna use their accommodation, you can either sort your own out or even rough it in a swag like the tough nut you are.

When is this happening?
The harvest season usually starts in October and finishes around December, but dates can change ‘cos of weather and grower timing.

How do I apply?
If you’ve read enough and are keen to earn some good money when Semester 2 ends then you can apply to become a harvest casual right here. Get around those good vibes.
