We Celebrate #FreedBritney by Looking Back at Her Most Iconic Moments

Oops!... She did something iconic again… And again… And again…

After being under the control of her father since 2008 due to treatment for undisclosed mental health issues, Britney is finally #free.

This marks the first time that she will have autonomy over her financial and personal affairs in 13 years, and the internet is rejoicing.

After a court hearing, crowds of fans gathered to chant her name and dance to her song “Stronger”, with Spears posting a video on social media in gratitude.

To celebrate, we look back at some of the moments that have made her a verified icon in pop culture.

1. Her being all smol and talented on The All New Mickey Mouse Club (1993).

She’s had the ‘it’ factor since she was 12 years old.

Starring alongside Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake and Ryan Gosling, Spears was a 'Mouseketeer' on a Disney Channel show.

If you haven’t seen some of this footage, boy are you missing out.

2. “…Baby One More Time” becoming an instant classic (1998).

From child star to teenage idol.

The world continues to adore this bop—you merely have to go to a Halloween party each year to see teens dressing in the famous ‘fit.

Not only did it worm its way into the collective ears of the planet, but it became one of the most recognizable music videos of all time. Until she topped that title herself, later on.

3. Her dancing with a PYTHON on stage at the MTV VMAs (2001).

Excuse me?! Did this actually happen, or was it a fever dream?

By now, we’ve seen just about everything go down on the VMA stage, from the Kanye West/Taylor Swift beef, to Lady Gaga wearing a dress made of literal meat.

But these were the days when scandal was young, and Britney was truly paving the way for future artists with her on-stage antics.

4. The “Toxic” music video premieres (2004).

The video no one can stop talking about, 17 years later.

Yeah, we’ve got advanced tech now, with crazy CGI capabilities and complex plotlines in blockbuster films and Netflix series, but this will forever be a masterpiece of its time.

For this, Spears won her first and only Grammy. This begs the question—why has she only got one?! For shame!

3. Her shaved head moment (2007).

Spears shocked us all when she shaved her own head right in front of paparazzi cameras inside a hair salon.

While this was a memeable moment, it indicated the beginning of a harsh breakdown for the star.

With her newfound freedom, people on the internet and celebrities are expressing their happiness for Spears to live her best life. Actress Jameela Jamil, for one, is advocating for her continued protection from paparazzi and tabloid media.

We only want the best for our queen of pop.
