Big News: Britney Spears’ Dad Has Filed to End Her 13-Year Conservatorship

Will she finally be free?
In the most unexpected news ever, Britney Spears’ father Jamie Spears has filed a petition to terminate Britney’s 13-year long conservatorship.
According to an article by TMZ, Jamie filed the petition in the Los Angeles Superior Court on Tuesday claiming that he believes she has no need for a conservator anymore.
Essentially, Jamie is claiming that Britney’s ability to choose her own lawyer has shown him that she is independent and there’s no longer a legal need for the conservatorship anymore.
“This Court has recognised that Ms Spears has both the capacity and capability to identify, engage, and instruct counsel of her own choice, on her own, without the assistance of the Conservator or the Court,” the documents read.
“If Ms Spears has the capability to engage counsel on her own, she presumably has the capacity to handle other contractual and business matters.”
Not sure why it took Jamie 13 years to figure that out, but our guesses are that the #FreeBritney movement may have had something to do with it.
On top of claiming that she no longer needs a conservator, Jamie finally recognised that Britney’s mental health and independence capabilities may have changed over the 13-year course of the conservatorship "to such an extent that grounds for establishment of a conservatorship may no longer exist."
He says that if she wants out, and believes that she can handle her own life, he feels she should have that chance (I’m sorry what? That’s a hell of a 180).
We all remember the brave speech Britney gave to the court back in June where she plead for her freedom yeah? Well, Jamie has even noted that this is what made him aware of her wish for independence and is happy to give it to her.
"Ms Spears has told this Court that she wants control of her life back without the safety rails of a conservatorship. She wants to be able to make decisions regarding her own medical care, deciding when, where and how often to get therapy," he said.
"She wants to control the money she has made from her career and spend it without supervision or oversight. She wants to be able to get married and have a baby if she so chooses. In short, she wants to live her life as she chooses without the constraints of a conservator or court proceeding."
The sudden news comes just a few weeks after Jamie said that he would step down as conservator of Britney, but only, “when the time is right”.
While Jamie’s petition is a positive step, the fight for Britney’s freedom isn’t over yet. His court petition is still pending approval from the courts, so keep your fingers crossed.
