Brace Yourselves, "His Dark Materials" Returns for S2 on 17 November in Australia

Time to say hi to the Magisterium once more.

If you’ve been desperate for His Dark Materials to make its return, we have good news: the second season will unfurl in Australia on the same day as its debut in the United States, beginning 17 November.

Just like the first season of the Philip Pullman adaptation, Season 2 of His Dark Materials will screen on Foxtel’s Fox Showcase, and then be avalable On Demand via Foxtel Now and Binge.

The first instalment of the eight-episode season will premiere at 8.30pm on Tuesday 17 November, with episodes rolling out weekly after that (just as it airs on HBO in the United States).

Seasons 1 and 2 are based on Pullman’s first two novels in the His Dark Materials franchise: Northern Lights and The Subtle Knife. However, the showrunners have told Deadline they would like to break the third book, The Amber Spyglass, into two additional seasons. In fact, they’re already working on S3 scripts, even though the show is yet to be officially renewed.

Dafne Keen stars in the series as Lyra, a young girl who serves as the key to liberate her world from magical baddies. Ruth Wilson, Lin-Manuel Miranda, James McAvoy and the rest of the S1 cast also return for this second go-around, with Fleabag’s very own Andrew Scott joining the cast as Colonel John Parry.

In a statement, Wilson explained what her character Mrs. Coulter is up to this time: "What was really joyful this season to play with, was to get into her circumstances more… What she’s had to deal with as a woman in a very male world, the sacrifices she’s had to make and at what cost."

If you’re not familiar with the book or the show (or even the Nicole Kidman movie—never forget!) you can catch up with Season 1 of His Dark Materials on Foxtel Now and Binge.
