Barack Obama Spent His Summer Listening to Megan Thee Stallion's "Savage"

But what does he think about "WAP"?

Barack Obama—that classy, bougie ex-President—has dropped his latest summer playlist, an annual tradition in which he reveals what he and former First Lady Michelle have been grinding to over the past few months.

This latest announcement comes on the eve of the Democratic National Convention, when his Vice President, Joe Biden, will be named the party's official nominee for the upcoming 2020 election, opposite Republican contender and incumbent US President Donald Trump.

As Obama noted on Twitter, this year’s playlist includes cuts from some of the performers at the virtual DNC, including Billie Eilish ("My Future"), The Chicks ("Gaslighter"), Maggie Rogers ("Love You For a Long Time") and Leon Bridges ("Texas Song").

Other tunes, as in previous years, seem like they might be focus group-approved jams, designed not to offend any older listeners who might add this to their Spotify: ("All I Wanna Do" by Sheryl Crow; "Know Your Worth" by Khalid).

But no one made the Obamas add Megan Thee Stallion’s sassy, moody, nasty remix of "Savage" to the playlist. Sure, it went to #1 in the States, and features friend of the Obamas (and closest thing to American royalty), Beyoncé. But it’s also a fearless feminist anthem that encourages listeners to "eat [Megan] and record it". Damn Prez. (You just know Barack was this close to adding "WAP" too… or maybe it was just released too late to make the cut. Summer of '21 it is!)

Then again, maybe its inclusion is not so surprising. Perhaps given the testy nature of 2020’s election campaign, Obama felt a real kinship with the line "beefing with you b****** really getting kinda boring."

Donald Trump, meanwhile, is yet to release his summer playlist, presumably because every half-decent musical artist on Earth hates him and wants to sue him. Cruel summer indeed.
