Bad News: Sony Confirms PS5 Shortages Will Stick Around Until 2022

So this is what heartache feels like.
It feels like we’re living in a constant news cycle of torture that swings between PS5s are back in stock and PS5s are sold out again. Honestly, my heart can’t take much more of it.
Finally, Sony have addressed the low stock issue to deliver some more bad news for anyone hoping to get one: PS5 shortages are here to stay until next year.

According to Bloomberg, Sony CFO Hiroki Totoki revealed in their late April financial report that the company is struggling to keep up with demand for the hugely popular console.
“I don’t think demand is calming down this year” Totoki said in the briefing.
“Even even if we secure a lot more devices and produce many more units of the PlayStation 5 next year, our supply wouldn’t be able to catch up with demand.”
In other words, the PS5 is gonna be a rare find well into 2022. Not loving this for me right now.
The shortage of PS5s is partly due to a COVID related electronic parts shortage worldwide leaving Sony struggling to get semiconductors for the console.
There's a chip shortage that's hurting everything from the PlayStation 5 to iPhone and cars.

If you’re wondering why they can’t just make more semiconductors, it’s a little more complicated than that.
Basically, COVID meant people are locked down in their homes and to escape boredom, bought more tech, ultimately putting a massive demand on semiconductor producers.
In light of the semiconductor shortage impacting availability of the Playstation 5, among other things, I am proud to announce my new company that is cutting semiconductors in half and making quarterconductors

So really, when you look at it like that, we’re the ones at fault for the PS5 shortage. Dammit me!
But seriously, here’s hoping they sort out that little issue real soon.
Anyway, Sony said they had sold 7.8 million consoles as of March and were looking to sell another 14.8 million before the end of the financial year on 30 June.
Considering that Sony sold over 115 million PS4s, there’s a looonnnggg way to go before most of us get out own PS5.
The good news is that Totoki told those at the meeting the company needs to increase production ASAP to make sure the PS5 is on shelves in stores around the world.
For now, you’re just gonna have to make do with your PS4. If you’re one of the lucky ones who has a PS5, I hate you.
