Australian Music Prize Winner Sampa The Great Has Made History

She's killing it.
If you haven't taken a listen to rising star Sampa The Great's tracks, we suggest you make that your highest priority. If you need further convincing: the artist took home the very prestigious Australian Music Prize for the second time for her record The Return.
She also won in 2017 for her album Birds And The BEE9, making her the first artist in history to receive the award twice.
Sampa The Great posted a heartfelt message to Twitter to thank the AMP for recognising her.
The winner of the AMP is judged by 48 members of the Aussie music industry, and $30,000 in prize money is awarded to the recipient.
Sampa, who was born in Zambia, was rehearsing for her performance at Golden Plains in Meredith, Victoria when she heard about her win.
"You find your name shortlisted and you don't expect anything... I was wondering who would win, there was so much good music," she said in a statement.
"I just said to the guys in rehearsal this (winning) has happened again, it's amazing."
At last year's ARIA awards, Sampa The Great picked up the ARIA award for best hip-hop release for her song "Final Form".
With more than 400 albums that met the eligibility criteria for the AMP award, AMP director Scott Murphy said in a statement, "Although it was an extremely hard decision to make, with so many amazing albums on the finalist list this year, we couldn't be happier to award the prize to Sampa The Great."
"The Return is a truly important record that will no doubt be held up as one of the all-time great bodies of work, for years to come."
