Australia Finally Gives Drake What America Keeps Denying Him: A #1 Single

His Rihanna collaborations aside, Drake’s singles have previously only reached #2 on the Australian and American charts, never quite breaking through to the top of the pops.

As if he needed another reason to be sad.

You could even say his most recent album, Views (re-view-ed here), was named for his desire to one day reach the summit of the ARIA and Billboard charts.

Well, dry your eyes mate.

Though American chart domination remains elusive for the sulky Canadian, Australia has finally ended the Drizzy drought by pushing “One Dance” to the tippy-top of this week’s ARIA Top 50.

It becomes Aubrey Graham’s first #1 in Oz, following close calls with “Hotline Bling” (which peaked at #2, bested by Adele’s “Hello”) and “Hold On, I’m Coming Home” (#8).

"One Dance" is now also Drake's first Canadian #1 single too.

In the States’, “One Dance” remains in second place, beneath Desiigner’s “Panda”. However, with his album topping the Billboard 200 with more than one million sales (making it his sixth #1 album and giving him the biggest sales week for a male artist since Justin Timberlake’s The 202/20 Experience in March of 2013), he really doesn’t have that much to complain about.

Views went to #1 in Australia too, marking Drake’s first chart-topping album down under.

Unfortunately, "One Dance" isn't on YouTube, so you'll have to watch this Call of Duty parody instead. It's... fine.

Update: And now Desiigner's watch is ended. "One Dance" has jumped to the top of the Billboard 200. Congrats Drake on your first US #1. May you never cry again.
