Sia Goes To #1 In America With "Cheap Thrills"; Still Hasn't Topped The ARIA Singles Chart

Sia has scored her first number one single in the United States… before she even managed one in her home of Australia.
The heavily-fringed singer-songwriter dethroned Drake’s “One Dance” with “Cheap Thrills” (which, real talk, is not nearly as good as her previous solo singles; personally, I would have rather seen her Katniss Everdeen anthem “Elastic Heart” make it there instead).
Though “Chandelier” was a Top 10 hit on the Billboard Hot 100, this is her first time at the summit in the States (unless you count Rihanna’s “Diamonds”, which Sia wrote). ARIA has confirmed to Student Edge that “Chandelier” topped out at #2 down under.
As Vulture points out, it’s the first time a woman over the age of 40 has hit the top spot since Madonna made it there with “Music” in the year 2000.
Back in Australia, “Cheap Thrills” is sitting at #36, having peaked at #6 on the ARIA Charts. It is nonetheless 3x Platinum, which counts for something.
It’s unlikely we’ll see “Cheap Thrills” make it all the way to the top, locally.
Still, Sia’s earned the right to have fun tonight.
