Apple Announced the iPhone X Which Literally Unlocks With Your Face

Apple held this year's annual keynote presentation and announced a whole swathe of new (and v. expensive) Apple goodies.

Apple announced a new Apple watch, 4k streaming on Apple TV and, of course, what everyone's been waiting for: new iPhone models.

The iPhone 8 and its bigger screen sibling, the 8 Plus, are your usual suspects in terms of new models. They'll feature a few cool little aspects such as wireless charging, a better quality camera and a faster processor.

But, Apple also unleashed a new beast: the iPhone X.

Here's where things get a lil' more futuristic. The iPhone X features Face ID, which replaces Touch ID, meaning you can unlock your phone with your face. Apple reckons it doesn't matter if you're wearing glasses or have grown yourself a beard or are wearing a cute hat because it will still see you.

Of course, there was a tiny hiccup at the launch when they unveiled facial recognition and it didn't actually work.

The iPhone X will also remove the over-used home button and introduce Animojis, which are like regular emojis, but they match with your facial expression(!).

Other non-iPhone updates include 4G connectivity with Apple watches, meaning you can stream and do all 4G-related stuff with your watch because why not?

Apple stores are now set to be turned into their own mini Apple shopping malls and town plazas, and Apple TV will now support 4k streaming.

Okay, that's nearly everything.

The new iOS 11 also has a release date. It's coming out next week at 10am, on September 19 (Pacific Daylight Time), so that's September 20 for us Australians.

Remember to check which of your apps will no longer run on the new operating system. It's time to say farewell.

Brace yourselves, Apple is coming.

  • Is facial recognition really 'new stuff' if Samsung has released it months ago??
