Crunchyroll is No Longer Free, So Here Are the Best Sites to Stream Anime in Australia

Let the binging continue!

Bad news for anime lovers.

Crunchyroll, considered the prime anime streaming service, has changed its subscription model—meaning no more free episodes of your fave series.

Instead, the popular site is switching to charging monthly, with fees ranging between $11 to $21. The best things in life are, apparently, not free.

We know you’re desperate. So, here are some alternatives which may not be free, but more affordable and suited to all your anime needs. You're welcome.

9anime, free.

Perhaps too good to be true, 9anime is packed with premium high-quality content with English dubbing, and you don’t have to pay a cent.

It’ll have you swatting away a fair number of ads as you click through the content, but once you’ve got your fave show streaming, it’s hard to complain.

Funimation, $5.99/monthly.

This site has an abundance of dubbed anime shows, so it’s great if you’d prefer not to read captions.

There’s a huge selection of shows such as Attack on Titan, My Hero Academia and Yuri!!! On ICE, plus high-resolution videos with a two-week free trial for your plan!

Netflix, $9.99/monthly.

Yes, the streaming giant has anime on its catalogue, and it’s surprisingly vast.

Most people already have Netflix, so this is a great way of decreasing costs and not having to pay for another streaming platform.

The downside is not all episodes or seasons are available due to licensing costs and other issues. For example, Attack on Titan only has three seasons on Netflix.

But you’ve got shows like Little Witch Academia and Death Note to keep you going for days.

Amazon Prime Video, $6.99/monthly.

If you’re into lengthier anime films such as Grave of the Fireflies or the highly popular Your Name, Amazon Prime Video may be worth a shot.

Plus, you can connect your Funimation account for a few extra dollars!

Never fear, your anime addiction can and will keep thriving.

  • I'd be careful about 9anime, as there are a lot of fake sites with the same name and very similar web addresses, which try to automatically download malware (or other unknown things) onto your computer. Even the 'real'/original site may be vulnerable to being hacked so that it contains malware.

However, I do know that Tubi, found at tubitv(dot)com, has some anime shows (like Naruto and Death Note) for free with ads. As it is an American service, some content may be unavailable unless you use a VPN (which I do).
