Clutch Your Wallet Folks ‘Cos Netflix Is Increasing Its Prices as of Today

Bet you don’t even remember who pays for your account, hey?

Prepare yourself peeps, you might wanna sit down for this one. As of today, Netflix in Australia is officially upping its prices. So, shed a tear for your roommate’s, brother’s, ex’s bank account.

Okay, in all seriousness, the news that Netflix has decided to become even more expenny is casually devastating. So, to avoid a shock when you get your next bank statement here’s what they’re updating their prices to and why.

What are Netflix’s new prices?

Basically, on 11 November, any new customers that join Netflix will be hit with the price hike from the get-go, whereas existing customers won’t see it in their statement until 18 November.

The new rise is also based on what plan you’re currently on, or which one you decide to sign up with.

Basic plans that currently cost $10.99 a month won’t actually see a change. So, single peeps that enjoy a lone screen on SD quality can ignore this whole PSA, you’ve got nothin’ to worry about.

Standard plans are getting pushed from $15.99 to $16.99 a month, for which you’ll get two screens and HD quality streaming. Tbh, for a dollar, I’m not mad at it.

Premium plans, however, are shooting from $19.99 to $22.99. Again, not the worst thing in the world, but $22.99 a month works out at $275.88 per year, which hurts my soul.

These new prices also make Netflix the most expensive streaming service in Australia. So, is it time to switch to another?

Why is Netflix charging more?

Essentially to give people more options when choosing which plan they want to go with and to add more content to the platform.

“We know Australians have never had more choices when it comes to entertainment, and we’re more committed than ever to delivering an experience that exceeds their expectations,” a Netflix spokesperson said in a statement.

“Members tell us how much they value the breadth and variety of the catalogue, and we’re updating our prices so that we can continue to invest in more shows and films.

“As always, there’ll be different plans so that people can pick a price that works for their budget.”

It is the first price rise from the streaming service since September last year, and the first time in two years that the premium plan has had a hike.

Idk about you, but even though I’m now paying more for my tv binging habit, I just wanna go watch Netflix even more.

You can catch me streaming How I Met Your Mother for the 100th time.
