An Interchange Infringement?! The Top Five Moments of AFL Round 10

Ten rounds in and it keeps getting better.
It’s been one of the strangest weeks of football in recent history, centred around the perplexing finish to Saturday’s North Melbourne v Sydney Match.
That being said, here’s the top five moments of the round.
5. Banners THUMPS it forward.
Last year, Bailey Banfield spent most of the year on the bench as Walyalup’s sub.
But in Saturday’s match against the reigning premier in Geelong, Banfield proved his worth.
Amidst a one-goal, 20-disposal game, Banfield’s shining moment came when he punched it forward, setting up a massive goal.
4. Everyone knows it’s Butters.
In the opening game of Sir Doug Nicholls Round, it was all Zak Butters.
The Yartapulti midfielder had an absolute day out, finishing with an enormous 41 touches, 10 clearances and two goals.

What’s more, he’s the youngest player ever to reach 40+ disposals, 2 goals and 10 clearances.
3. Paul Curtis goes all the way.
Despite it being a tough year for North Melbourne fans, you gotta love this kid.
Evading not one, not two, but three Sydney defenders, Curtis wheeled around to the pocket and kicked a classy goal of the year contender.
2. Dreamtime at the G delivers again.
It’s always one of the most special games of the season.
The annual Dreamtime at the G match between Richmond and Essendon is always exciting, but this year’s iteration took it to a new level.
Essendon claimed their first win over Richmond since 2014, winning by one point in the final few minutes.
1. The Interchange Saga.
As a longtime footy fan, I’ve never seen this before.
In the final minutes of the North Melbourne Sydney match, North led by 3 points and were primed to take home their third win of the season.
But confusion arose when Sydney were awarded a free kick and a fifty-metre penalty, effectively handing the Swans the win.
The reason? An interchange infringement.
Teams are given a maximum of 75 interchanges in a match, and North Melbourne went over that cap in a confusing and heartbreaking loss.
Well that was eventful.
