Stay Strong: 2017 Is Off To A Terrible Start With Looming Garlic Bread Shortage

There was no preparing for this.
Of all the nightmare scenarios that were made manifest in 2016, there was no way to fathom the horror that would be conjured by 2017, with news today of an impending garlic bread shortage.
George Weston Foods has recalled 11 of their garlic bread products, following the discovery of two small pieces of plastic in a margarine blender on January 11.
Those who keep garlic bread in the fridge for emergency spag-bol cook-ups—aka, geniuses—have been advised to check their packets, in case their brand falls under the GWF umbrella.
That includes… (deep, garlic-scented breath):
- Aldi Me'n'u Garlic Bread Twin Pack 450g
- Woolworths Homebrand Garlic Bread 450g
- FoodWorks Best Buy Twin Pack Garlic Bread 450g
- Foodland Garlic Bread Twin Pack 450g
- IGA Bakers Oven Garlic Bread Minis 4 Pack
- IGA Bakers Oven Twin Pack Garlic Bread
- Australian Garlic Bread 11” Catering Single Garlic Bread
- Australian Garlic Bread Garlic Bread for One x12
- Australian Garlic Bread Baguette with Garlic x12
- Australian Garlic Bread 9” Herb Bread
- Australian Garlic Bread Catering 9” Garlic Bread
If you indeed have one of these in the deep freeze, get more info on the affected packets here.
Most distressingly, Pizza Hut and Domino’s—who both are supplied garlic bread by George Weston Foods—have taken the item off the menu until further notice.
According to the ABC, Domino’s revealed in a statement that they had not received any reports of customers being affected by potentially contaminated garlic bread. In the meantime, they are directing people to their "Handcrafted Cheesier Garlic Bread", though Domino's connoisseurs (aka people on Facebook) are complaining it's not quite the same thing.
Stay strong, people. The year can only get better from here, right?
(By the way, you can still totally make your own, so it’s not all bad.)
