Yes, "Free Guy" Is Still Coming to Australian Cinemas This December

Crossing my fingers that date won’t change.

20th Century Studios is coming to rescue us from the ashes of 2020 with the trailer release of their sci-fi action comedy Free Guy, transporting us into world of a video game.

Premiering in Australian cinemas on 10 December (11 December for US viewers), gamers and movie goers better prepare themselves for a wild adventure.

Starring Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool), Jodie Comer (Killing Eve), Joe Keery (Stranger Things), Lil Rel Howery (Get Out), Utkarsh Ambudkar (Pitch Perfect) and Taika Waititi (Jojo Rabbit), this epic adventure tells the story of a bank teller who discovers that he is actually a non playable character (NPC) in an open-world video game.

After becoming self-aware, he rejects his role as a background character and becomes a hero to save his world from being shut down by the game's developers.

Kind of like a happy marriage between Grand Theft Auto and Fortnite, Guy (Ryan Reynolds) constantly gets wiped out by cars or trains in the game's attempt to stop him but he fights back and gets his entire city behind him.

The film is directed by Shawn Levy and is based off a story by Matt Lieberman and a screenplay also by Lieberman and Zack Penn.

Gaming fans are also super excited for this release because some of their favourite streamers and YouTubers also join the roster for a cameo including Jacksepticeye (Seán McLoughlin), Ninja (Tyler Blevins), Pokimane (Imane Anys) and Lazar Beam (Lannan Eacott).

With almost every other major film release pushed forward this year, and the initial release of the film set as 3 July 2020, we are on the edge of our seats to see if 20th Century will keep its promises and give us Free Guy by the end of the year.

Now that the official trailer has been released, we have hope that nothing will change but it will all depend on how many cinemas have re-opened by then.
