Netflix Confirms Their First Video Game Will Be for Mobile

Free for all Netflix subscribers.

Well, it turns out the rumours about Netflix expanding into video games are true. The streaming company has confirmed their first game will be on mobile and free for all subscribers.

In their latest letter to investors, Netflix detailed how they are in the early stages of setting up their games division with plans to focus on mobile gaming to begin with.

“We view gaming as another new content category for us, similar to our expansion into original films, animation and unscripted TV,” the letter states.

“Initially, we’ll be primarily focused on games for mobile devices. We’re excited as ever about our movies and TV series offering… but since we are nearly a decade into our push into original programming, we think the time is right to learn more about how our members value games.”

That’s some exciting news for all you gamers out there. I guess the only downfall is that they’ll only be starting with mobile games but hey, they gotta start somewhere.

What’s even better is that Netflix made it clear that their game offering will be free to subscribers.

“Games will be included in members’ Netflix subscription at no additional cost similar to films and series.”

Ngl, they had me at free.

Last week, Netflix made the news after they hired former EA executive Mike Verdu to take charge of their push into the gaming sphere as their vice president of game development, so it’s fair to say Netflix are very serious about making this work.

Sadly, Netflix hasn’t confirmed when mobile games will be added to their library, but a report from Bloomberg illudes to gaming content becoming available as soon as 2022.

Watch this space.
