Yas, Queen: Seven-Year-Old Girl Pulls a Medieval Sword From a Lake Just Like King Arthur

According to legend, only the rightful heir to England could possess the sword. Hail Queen Matilda!

While swimming in Dozmary Pool in Cornwall, England, seven-year-old Matilda Jones pulled a sword out from the lake's floor in what was, coincidentally, the same lake from the legend of King Arthur.

Her father explained to The Sheffield Star that Matilda was only waist deep and that he didn't believe she'd actually seen a sword at first. "I told her not to be silly and it was probably a bit of fencing, but when I looked down I realised it was a sword," he said.

He also suspects it's a prop and is only about 20-to-30 years old. Sigh.

According to the legend, King Arthur was given the sword, called Excalibur, by the Lady of the Lake. When he was mortally wounded, he directed one of his knights to throw the sword back in the lake.

Apparently, Matilda's pops had only just told her about the legend of King Arthur days before, so this could also be a sneaky one pulled by her dad.

But anyway, I for one, welcome our new seven-year-old leader.
