A London Zoo Named a Baby Zebra After Meghan Markle and There Are Serious Side-Eyes

Well, it's certainly a gesture.

In case you've filtered everything related to the British Royal family out of your life (we get that), you might not have known that former Suits actor, Meghan Markle, has recently gotten engaged to Prince Harry.

There's already been a bunch of controversies surrounding members of the Royal Family, as well as others in the spotlight, and their racist gestures and remarks towards the actor, who is half African-American and Anglo-American.

So, when the London Zoo announced that the latest addition to their Okapi (a.k.a. forest zebra) family was going to be named after Meghan Markle, some were suspicious about the intention.

Many were quick to point out the racist history of referring to biracial people as "zebras" and how similar this was to H&M's recent scandal.

Earlier this month, H&M was criticised for displaying a black child modelling a jumper that read "coolest monkey in the jungle". Protests against the store were held and one of their brand ambassadors, The Weeknd, severed ties with them.

H&M has since pulled the item and released an apology.

"Our position is simple — we have got this wrong and we are deeply sorry," the statement said.

"We have a responsibility to be aware of and attuned to all racial and cultural sensitivities — and we have not lived up to this responsibility this time."

The London Zoo has yet to release a statement.
