Would You Rather Have $130m Worth of Bitcoin or Two Pizzas? In 2010, Some Guy Chose the Pizzas

If you’ve got even one bitcoin in your digital wallet, you’re laughing.

Today, each bitcoin is worth around $AUD13,000, recovering from its deflated price of $AUD989 from just last year.

But once upon a time, bitcoins were only worth about $AUD0.005, and as Business Insider reminds us, back in 2010, some dude spent 10,000 bitcoins on a couple of large pizzas.

If he had held onto those bitcoins and gone without those 16 slices of ‘za, he would be $AUD130m richer.

On a bitcoin forum post that, hilariously, remains live for everyone to see, Laszlo Hanyecz boasted of his sweet bartering skills.

"I'll pay 10,000 bitcoins for a couple of pizzas.. like maybe 2 large ones so I have some left over for the next day," he wrote.

"I like having left over pizza to nibble on later."

A reminder: Today, for $130m, you can get 8.6 million Domino’s pizzas… and that’s delivered.

In 2013, Hanyecz expressed his regret to the New York Times, saying, "No one knew it was going to get so big."

Here is live footage of him in 2017:
