Women in Trades are on the Rise - Here's How to Break into the Industry

Ladies, here’s how to become tradies.
This article is presented in partnership with MEGT.
Women make up just three per cent of Australia’s skilled trades sector, but number is set to go right up.
With more and more women entering the trades sector every year, now’s your time to embark on a trade.

MEGT are a company that provide key advice, assistance, and apprenticeships to anyone embarking on a trade, and they have a fantastic network to support women in the industry.
Emily, an electrical apprentice with MEGT, said while university life wasn’t for her, getting an apprenticeship with MEGT has been a great step for her.

“I knew university wasn’t for me, but it wasn’t until I met my partner, and started helping him outside, that I realised it didn’t feel like work. So, I got a job at the wind farm and loved it!”
“As a woman, you only think you can do certain jobs,” she said.
“But if you have confidence in yourself and take a chance, nine times out of ten, you will be able to do it.”
MEGT don’t just help you get the apprenticeship; they take it a step further.
Through their Women in Trades Hub, you’ll get access to a personal mentor to help you through each step of the way, from start to finish.
You’ll also get opportunities to meet and connect with other female tradespeople, build industry contacts, and stay motivated throughout the apprenticeship process.
