Why Getting a Trade Might Just Be the Best Decision You Ever Make

Looking for an apprenticeship? Look no further.
This article is presented in partnership with MEGT.
Wanna jump headfirst into your career but still not sure where, when, or how? Maybe you know you don’t want to go to uni, but you’re not sure what else is out there?
*Apprenticeships and traineeships have entered the chat.*
They’re a great way to build up your skills in a huge range of careers, set yourself up as an irreplaceable worker, and make money along the way.
So, here’s three reasons why getting a trade could be the easiest and best decision you ever make!

There’s something for everyone.
When we say, ‘something for everyone’, we don’t just mean that there are plenty of careers to pick from–although there’s that too, with jobs in everything from IT, business to electrical and carpentry.
What we mean is that, if you go through a company like MEGT who provides apprenticeships to those looking for a trade, there are chances for everyone to get involved.
Through the MEGT Women in Trades Hub, there are opportunities to meet and connect with other female tradies and get access to a personal mentor, which you can read all about in our article here.
There’s MEGT’s Indigenous Apprenticeship and Traineeship Network (IATN) which aims to support First Nations people to achieve their goals with a wide range of apprenticeships on offer.
Through their programs, MEGT are working to build quality relationships and connections that bring local communities together through employment, training, and mentoring opportunities for First Nations people.
For more information about First Nations apprenticeships or the jobs available, visit the MEGT website.

You could be recognised with an award.
There’s no better feeling than being rewarded for all your hard work, and in the apprenticeship world, there are plenty of chances to show off your skills.
That’s exactly what happened to Cheyenne Swan when she was named one of five finalists in the 2023 Queensland State Training Awards – Bob Marshman Trainee of the Year.

Cheyenne took part in the MEGT 2023 ‘I Got Brushed III’ program and now works as a trade assistant with Wright Way Painting.
MEGT Small Project Manager, Wayne Tyrie, said Cheyenne “well and truly deserves to be a finalist.”
“We nominated Cheyenne to recognise her outstanding achievements throughout the 'I Got Brushed' program, including the completion of her Certificate I in Construction,” he said.
Always nice to get a compliment, right?!

You’ll step straight into a real job.
If you pick up an apprenticeship - especially one through MEGT - you’ll get all the support you need to transition into ongoing employment at the end of your training.
They’re Australia’s only national Apprenticeship Network Provider with more than 600 staff working across the country in 60 locations. So, it’s safe to say they’ve got a whole lotta connections.
That means they’re well placed to set you up with work-ready training and real, ongoing employment opportunities during and after your qualification.
