Will the New Battle Royale Mode of "Call of Duty" Overtake "Fortnite"?

Does Call of Duty's Blackout have what it takes to knock Fortnite from the top?

Like PlayerUnknown Battleground (PUBG) before it, Fortnite has a new competitor on the block that might finally take its spot atop the battle royale perch.

That competitor is, of course, Call of Duty's Blackout mode, which basically takes the concept of PUBG and Fortnite and makes it slicker and with more explosions and drama.

Blackout was recently released in beta mode (a product that still needs work before a full release) for those who've pre-ordered the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 and has been receiving rave reviews due to its playfulness.

But despite the groundswell of players flocking to the new release, some fans still think Fortnite will maintain its edge due to it being more accessible (i.e. free) and more fun (everybody loves a cartoon-y world).

But opinions are irrelevant when the numbers are telling a different story. Stay tuned for this next takeover.

You can play Blackout when it's released alongside the full Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 game on 12 October.
