What’s the Catchiest Song from the "Lego Movie" Franchise? An Infuriating Ranking

These songs are gonna get stuck inside your head.

You ever see Outbreak? Look, if you haven’t, don’t rush. It’s not particularly good and three of its male stars were #MeTooed. But if you have seen it, you know it’s the movie in which the monkey from Friends spreads a deadly fever across the United States. There’s one scene where they demonstrate how the airborne virus travels from host to host, and it involves people coughing spores onto one another in a movie theatre. It is disgusting, and also the best comparison I can think of for how the songs in The Lego Movie are transmitted and implanted into our brains/central nervous systems.

So, for your reading infuriation, here’s a ranking of the Lego Movie franchise’s "catchiest" tunes.

Equal Last Place: "Found My Place", "It’s Garmadon" and "Dance of Doom" from The Lego Ninjago Movie

Fun fact: No one has ever seen The Lego Ninjago Movie. I thought I saw it on a plane once, but I’m not totally convinced. Anyway, it apparently contains several low-rent Lonely Island knock-offs, and the fact I had to listen to the soundtrack on Spotify to even remember that is a testament to how not-catchy they are.

7. "Friends Are Family" from The Lego Batman Movie

A well-meaning but unmemorable contribution from the musical artists known as (checks notes) Oh, Hush, who are apparently a thing.

6. "Who’s the (Bat)Man" from The Lego Batman Movie

Fall Out Boy’s Patrick Stump does a bit better with his own soundtrack cut. However, he gets an undeniable assist by sampling the classic "na na na na na na na na" Batman theme.

5. "Super Cool" from The Lego Movie 2

The first of the legitimately good original Lego Movie songs, "Super Cool" is basically indistinguishable from Beck’s other party-album tunes, except for the part where the real Lonely Island chime-in with lyrics about how good end credits are. Robyn is also here, so, bonus.

4. "Not Evil" from The Lego Movie 2

Tiffany Haddish is fantastic as Queen Watevra Wa’Nabi, and though her singing voice is a little thin (sorry!) her personality shines in this "I Am" tune that recalls "Be Prepared" from The Lion King.

3. "Gotham City Guys" from The Lego Movie 2

As I noted in my review of The Lego Movie 2, this song just slaps in the traditional sense, and is welcome to stay wormed inside our ears.

Believe it or not, the tune comprised almost entirely of the lyric "this song’s gonna get stuck inside your head" is very catchy. But not as catchy as…

Respect your elders. The original is unimpeachable. You will never expunge Tegan and Sara from your ears.
