"Westworld" Is Getting A Second Season, But You'll Have To Wait Until 2018 For It

At the lawless, godless, robot-populated theme park Westworld, your deepest, darkest desires can be made a reality – but often at great psychological cost.

Therefore, it’s fitting that HBO should satisfy fans with the announcement of a second season, only to add a devastating, heart-breaking caveat: you’ll probably have to wait until 2018 to get it.

Westworld

HBO programming president Casey Bloys told The Hollywood Reporter that it’s not yet known if Westworld’s second season will debut late 2017 or in 2018.

"Westworld is such a big, ambitious show,” he explained.

“With Westworld, because the production is such a big endeavour, I don't exactly know when [it will premiere] yet. I can't speculate other than to say it'll either be '17 or '18.”

“Probably more like '18,” Bloys ultimately conceded.

Given that the first season was shot back in 2014, it’s not unreasonable to expect two year gaps going forward.

If it’s any consolation at all, HBO’s other great new shows Divorce and Insecure were also renewed for second seasons, and you can expect them in 2017.

Here’s hoping the makers of Westworld give us plenty to mull over during the 24-month break. During last night’s episode - the seventh - Westworld finally confirmed one fan theory – but there are plenty more to go. (Please, please don’t do to William what we all think you’re gonna do to him, Westworld.)

Anyway, only three more episodes to go before the long drought begins. Savour it.
