We Made It? John Oliver Digs Into Australia's Own Barnaby Joyce Scandal on "Last Week Tonight"

Yaaaaaay?

There are certain moments of international stature that make a nation proud, like when one of your finest film exports gets an Oscar nomination for Best Picture, or when a local champ gets drafted into the NBA, or when your most embarrassing #auspol scandal gets featured on “Last Week Tonight”.

John Oliver’s weekly HBO show returned from its three-month hiatus over the weekend, and deigned to devote 90 of its most precious seconds to roasting the current (as of this writing) Deputy Prime Minister of Australia, Barnaby Joyce.

After introducing Joyce as the man who tried to “euthanise” Johnny Depp’s dogs (which, honestly, feels like it was 100 years ago), he explains how the “social conservative who opposed same-sex marriage” wound up getting his former media advisor pregnant, despite being married with children.

“You might think that that is hypocritical, but in reality, Joyce has such incredible family values, that he can’t restrict them to just one family,” Oliver said.

He even showed the father of Joyce’s new partner, Peter Campion, calling him the “most Australian man who has ever lived.”

Watch the whole thing below and beam with pride because Americans (and their British expat hosts) know who we are.
