We Know How Dirty "Deadpool 2" Is Gonna Be

Hold onto your unicorn's horn!

The promotional rollout for Deadpool 2 has been a beautiful ride, full of Logan spoilers, Aussie feuds and South Korean singing competitions.

So, the arrival of the actual movie to cinemas this week is somewhat bittersweet, as it means an end to Ryan Reynolds making an absolute mockery of press junkets (albeit, in largely PG fashion).

However, it also means he can finally be as filthy as he wants to be, safe inside the age-restricted enclosure of theatres.

It was, after all, his exceptionally dirty mouth that helped make Deadpool a surprise hit in 2016, grossing $US783 million worldwide off a $US58 million budget. In the process, it became the second highest grossing R-rated film in U.S. history. (NB: the American ‘R’ rating is more like Australia’s MA15+ rating. The next step up in the States is NC-17, which is more like our R18+ classification. It’s… confusing.)

In the lead-up to DP2's release, there’s been a lingering question: Will the sequel be as filthy as the original? After all, its studio, Fox, is now paying close attention and banking on it to bring in some serious cash. Plus, Disney recently purchased Fox—likely for its remaining Marvel characters—and the Mouse House is not exactly known for their foul-mouthed heroes. (Though, we would very much like to see that Zootopia re-edit.)

Any day now, reviews for Deadpool 2 will start arriving on Rotten Tomatoes, spoiling its grossest parts. In the meantime, we can tell you exactly how ruuude the film is, thanks to our mates at the local Classification Board, who rate Australian releases while also adding a tantalising tagline describing the freaky goings-on.

And, here's the good news: it's apparently just as gnarly as you hoped it would be.

Like its predecessor, Deadpool 2 is rated MA15+, though this time for "strong bloody violence and coarse language". (The first one was MA15+ for "strong bloody violence and sex scene".)

The MA15+ rating means the movie is "legally restricted to persons 15 years and over".

"Children under 15 who go to the cinema to see an MA 15+ film must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian for the duration of the film," the Classification Board adds.

"The parent or adult guardian must also purchase the movie ticket for the child."

The Board goes further, however, and provides a breakdown of a flick’s "impact" across the metrics of themes, violence, language, drug use, nudity and sex.

Compare the two Deadpools below:

Deadpool 2

So, a bit less sex, a bit more drug use and coarse language, and the same amount of nudity, violence and, um, 'themes'. Do with this information what you will.

If you’re still not sure if Deadpool 2 will be suitable for you, maybe you should wait until IMDB updates its "Parental Guide", which already has a few hilarious descriptions for the first picture’s raunchy scenes, as well as warnings of some arbitrary moments too. For example: "The main character visits a bar a few times." Honestly, that should be the least of your parents' problems with ol' m8 Deadpool.
