If you haven't seen it yet, it's a video called PPAP Pen Pineapple Apple Pen and while the words literally just seem to be a random assemblage of nouns (I mean, I guess they are?) the song is seriously catchy.

There's an overlay of Japanese subtitling across the entire video, which only adds to the confusion of it all. The song has all the hallmarks of a great viral video though: It's simple, quirky and infuriatingly infectious.

Upon further investigation, we have discovered that the adorably happy character in the video is a singer-songwriter named Piko-Taro. If you're wondering, his real-life, human name is Kazuhiko Kosaka.

Piko-Taro first appeared in one of Kazuhiko's stand-up performances. He ended up being so popular, which encouraged him to develop the character further.
