Watch A French Surfer Dominate The Swell In High Heels

It’s been a big year for high heels.
First, there was all the controversy generated at the Cannes Film Festival when women not wearing heels to the premiere of Cate Blanchett’s Carol were reportedly turned away for dressing inappropriately (they had on flats instead).
Then came the outcry over Jurassic World, in which Bryce Dallas Howard’s character insisted on wearing her heels throughout the ordeal of dinosaurs breaking loose from her theme park (considered by many to be the most outlandish thing about a pretty outlandish plot). Not even Chris Pratt showing off his heel-wearing abilities could quell the backlash. (It still made a heap of money though.)
Now, we tentatively await the response to this new video of French Caribbean pro surfer Maud Le Car donning high heels to surf… with surprising dexterity.
According to her Twitter feed, the video only exists because she “lost a bet”, but it also looks to be sponsored by mosquito repellent brand Para'Kito, weirdly.
Nonetheless, this is all very impressive.
The question is: does Le Car’s extreme-heeling help make stilettos seem feminist after a year in which they’ve been instruments of inequality?
