That Sexist Tennis Tournament Boss Serena Williams Destroyed Just Resigned, FYI

Indian Wells tournament CEO and co-founder Raymond Moore has tendered his resignation, just one day after making several controversial (read: gross) comments about female tennis players.

According to ABC News, Moore's resignation is effective immediately.

Moore enraged pretty much everyone yesterday when he made this charming statement: "If I was a lady player, I'd go down every night on my knees and thank God that Roger Federer and Rafa Nadal were born, because they have carried this sport. They really have."

So, he has no job now.

Owner of Indian Wells' BNP Paribas Open, Larry Ellison, released a statement confirming that Moore would be moving on.

"Ray let me know that he has decided to step down from his roles as CEO and Tournament Director effective immediately," he said.

"I fully understand his decision."

Then began an attempt to heal the tournament's tarnished reputation.

"Nearly half a century ago, Billie Jean King began her historic campaign for the equal treatment of women in tennis," Ellison continued.

"Thanks to the leadership of Billie Jean, Martina Navratilova, Venus Williams, Serena Williams and so many other great women athletes, an important measure of success has already been achieved."

Williams and King both spoke out against Moore's comments, with the former saying, “Obviously I don’t think any woman should be down on their knees thanking anybody like that."
