Novak Djokovic Is (Kinda) Sorry For Saying Male Tennis Players Deserve More Money Than Females

Tennis world, get it together!

World number one Novak Djokovic has apologised for making absurd comments shortly after a match on Sunday at the BNP Paribas Open, in which he claimed men deserved more prize money than female players.

(He initially attempted to clarify his comments by saying he had “tremendous respect” for women players, specifically because they had to go through “the hormones and different stuff.”)

On Facebook, Djokovic posted a letter entitled “Better game for all”, in which he blamed his comments on “euphoria and adrenalin”.

“This was never meant to be made into a fight between genders and differences in pay, but in the way all players are rewarded for their play and effort,” he wrote.

(Although, should "I want to apologize to anyone who has taken this the wrong way" really be considered an apology?)

According to ABC News, Serena Williams, who probably wished she didn’t have to keep addressing the nonsense of the male tennis world, called Djokovic’s remarks “disappointing”.

“I wouldn’t say my son deserved more money than my daughter because he’s a man,” she said.

“It would be shocking.

"I would never use sex to compare. We have so many great players, men and women, who have brought so much vision to the sport. Every athlete works extremely hard.”

Yesterday, Indian Wells tournament CEO and co-founder Raymond Moore stepped down after his own sexist comments drew criticism.

"If I was a lady player, I'd go down every night on my knees and thank God that Roger Federer and Rafa Nadal were born, because they have carried this sport,” he said.

Bros… what is up? You're ruining this for the rest of us!

At least Andy Murray is on the side of equality.

"I think there should be equal pay 100 percent," Murray said.

Now, can we not have another terrible story from the world of tennis for at least, like, 48 hours?
