Warner Bros Reportedly Wants Old Man Radcliffe For "Harry Potter And The Cursed Child" Movie Trilogy

Take this with an avalanche of salt: Warner Bros is reportedly eager to make a new movie trilogy out of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

First, the report. According to New York Daily News (and their “Tinseltown sources”), WB wants to snag Daniel Radcliffe for the next Harry Potter saga, based on the hit West End play (and subsequently released book/ script).

Apparently, Warners is “secretly” working on securing the movie rights. Huge if true, et cetera, et cetera.

Now, it’s hardly a surprise that Warner Bros would want to extend their most successful film franchise. They’re already kind-of doing it with the spin-off series Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, kicking off this November.

Buuuuut… there are some mighty hurdles for WB to clear if they ever want to put Cursed Child on the big screen.

First of all, there’s a reason it takes years – if not decades – for successful stage productions to become movies: They just make too much money on stage! Producing a movie that can be consumed on phones, for about $20, lessens the demand on the live productions, which usually charge hundreds of dollars for tickets. Hence, the delay on Book of Mormon and Hamilton movies.

Secondly, Daniel Radcliffe has made an exerted effort of late to distance himself from Harry Potter. (Did you even see Swiss Army Man?) Not only has he stressed his desire to “keep some distance” between himself and the character that made him famous, he’s not even seen Cursed Child yet.

Now, even if the stars align and everyone agrees to turn Cursed Child into a movie trilogy, we might still be waiting a while for it. After all, Radcliffe is just 27 years old – and Harry Potter in this newest tale is in his late 30s. So, unless we’re going to be gifted with some more old age make-up, as in the ending of Deathly Hallows, it’ll take some time for Radcliffe to age into the role.

Question is, do you even want to see three more Harry Potter movies? Would you happily wait 12 years for them?
