Want to Re-Live Your Childhood This Christmas? PlayStation Is Re-Releasing the PS1

PlayStation is taking it back to the start.

PlayStation has announced that they'll be re-releasing the PlayStation One but it's going to be a whole lot smaller than you remember.

The PlayStation Classic, which will come with 20 pre-installed "classics", will be 45 per cent smaller but is almost an exact replica with the same controllers and even the memory card slots.

The drop-date, 3 December, will mark 24 years since the first PlayStation was released in Japan and conveniently comes just in time for Christmas (wink, wink).

Some of the confirmed games to be pre-installed are Final Fantasy VII, Jumping Flash, R4 Ridge Racer Type 4, Tekken 3 and Wild Arms but there'd surely be riots if some our actual faves like Spyro, Crash Bandicoot, Ape Escape, Abe's Odyssey and the James Bond games aren't given a spot.

While some of these games have since been released in high definition, who doesn't love the pixelated archaism of the originals?

While it's not yet been confirmed, the smaller size suggests CDs aren't likely to fit in the console. This means any original PS1 games you still have lying around probably won't be compatible. Huge bummer.

You can pre-order the PlayStation Classic now from various stores.
