Move Over Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon Is Getting Remastered

Crash Bandicoot is so 2017. 2018 is the Year of Spyro.

Last year, your fave childhood video game series Crash Bandicoot was remastered in glorious high definition and re-released to a new generation of gamers.

But something was still missing. Something in the form of a small (but fierce) purple dragon.

But now, just a short while after Amazon (accidentally?) put the game's cover online a little too early, Activision has announced that the Spyro trilogy will also be remastered.

Spyro the Dragon first came out on PlayStation One in 1998 and follows the tale of a purple dragon, Spyro, and his dragonfly pal as they save other dragons from an orc called Gnasty Gnorc. Two more games, Spyro 2: Gateway to Glimmer and Spyro: Year of the Dragon, were released in the following two years.

IGN released a comparison between the pixelated classic and the new, shiny version and it will certainly bring a happy tear to the eye.

And, while we're at it, let's consider some of these throwbacks too.

Take note gaming companies, the people don't want more Call of Duty and Assassin's Creed titles for now (let's be fair, we've got enough for a lifetime). They want to play more of these timeless classics ASAP.

Spyro The Reignited Trilogy will be released on PlayStation 4 and Xbox on 21 September.
