Vines Can Now Go For 140 Seconds, Defeating The Purpose Of A Vine

Vine is experimenting with 140-second videos, eclipsing the platform’s previous limit of six seconds.

According to The Next Web, a select number of Vine users will be able to take advantage of the longer videos once they’ve downloaded the app's newest update (being rolled out today).

It’s not known when Vine will deem the rest of their users worthy of this Beta experiment.

Twitter, which owns Vine, will also host 140-second videos; previously, they were only capable of 30-second clips.

Many might be thinking, “Wait, Vines are mostly just to capture people doing something embarrassing, and what makes it really funny is seeing it looped over and over again.” This will always remain true.

Here’s how the 140-second videos will work, however: you will be able to choose a ‘six-second’ teaser for your video, which will now come with a ‘watch more’ button; clicking the button will allow your followers to, well, watch more.

Hmmmm.

Keep an eye on your favourite Vine influencers, who’ll likely be testing out the 140-second video format over the next few weeks, before a wider launch.

Though, if "Vine influencers" were able to command more than six seconds of our attention at a time, they'd be "YouTubers".

To quote the Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt theme song, "That’s gonna be a, you know, fascinating transition."
