USyd Students Held a Snap Protest Over Findings from "The Red Zone" Report

Trigger Warning: This article discusses sexual assault.
The University of Sydney's Wom*n's (USyd) Collective called a snap protest today during the university's O-Week in response to The Red Zone, a report that detailed disturbing allegations of hazing and sexual misconduct.
The event was held to show survivors that the students support and stand-up for them.

"The University of Sydney Wom*n's Collective will continue to fight the institutional cover-up of the endemic misogyny and entitlement that reeks from the college structure," the collective wrote in the Facebook event.
"The results, as expected are, horrifying. Apart from the recounts of hazardous hazing, animal cruelty and racism, the statistics pertaining to sexual assault are sickening."

The Red Zone, conducted by End Rape on Campus, focused on the alleged rituals that occurred in USyd's accommodation colleges.
It highlighted that during the Red Zone (new students' first three weeks at university), students were allegedly subjected to a number of humiliating and illegal actions.
Some students complained of other students defecating in the hallways of accommodation while others claimed male students were masturbating into the shampoo bottles of female students.
Some first-years explained how they were put into a dark, crowded room and hit with dead fish.
One of the authors of the report, Nina Funnell, has explained that since the report's release on Monday, End Rape on Campus has been "inundated" with accounts of assault and hazing within university accommodations.
