Upcoming Game "Cyberpunk 2077" Looks Like "Ready Player One" Meets "GTA V"

Cyberpunk 2077 might just be your new favourite game.

E3, a huge video gaming conference, is on right now, which means we're getting updates on the juiciest upcoming releases in the gaming world.

Among a slew of sneak peaks and trailers comes the hotly-anticipated first look at Cyberpunk 2077.

Set in, we guess, 2077, you play as 'V', a mercenary, in a retro-futuristic world that looks like a blend of all your favourite sci-fi media. If the movie had a Pinterest mood board, it would be filled with stills from Blade Runner, Ready Player One, and Terminator, with hints of video games like Deus Ex and GTA V.

Having been developed by the makers of The Witcher 3, it's an open-world role-playing game that will let you choose your player's gender, physical appearance and clothing, as well as how you manage your relationships (romantic, platonic or otherwise) with the other characters in the world.

The associate design director Kyle Rowley told GameSpot that while you can shape your player, it's not a totally blank slate.

"For us, having someone who's voiced and a named character allows us to build more interesting relationships," Kyle told GameSpot.

"So, V [your character] in a sense does have her own kind of personality, but you shape it as a player."

But, for now, let's focus on the game's world, extremely reminiscent of Ready Player One.

First off, there's the familiar messy high-rise city.

Then, there's this car, which looks suspiciously like Wade's DeLorean from RP1 or maybe something out of GTA.

But this world also looks a bit like Los Angeles mixed with Tokyo's Shibuya; a similar vibe to Blade Runner 2049.

This is only our first look at Cyberpunk 2077, but if it's an indication of things to come, we're all in. Sadly, there's no release date yet for PS4, Xbox or PC, so it could be another two years before we get our clammy hands on it.
