Trump Pardons a Grandmother With a Life Sentence Thanks to Kim Kardashian's Campaigning

Finally, a good story from the White House.

After spending nearly 22 years in prison for a nonviolent, first-time drug offence, Alice Marie Johnson has been granted a pardon by President Donald Trump.

Her case made headlines around the world after Kim Kardashian West became involved and met with President Trump to discuss her circumstances. One week after that meeting, Alice was released.

The White House released a statement saying that despite their tough stance on crime, they also believed in second chances.

"Ms Johnson has accepted responsibility for her past behaviour and has been a model prisoner over the past two decades," the statement read.

"Despite receiving a life sentence, Alice worked hard to rehabilitate herself in prison, and act as a mentor to her fellow inmates."

Alice Johnson later went on CBS to thank Kardashian West for all her efforts.

Kardashian West took to Twitter to thank the parties involved, including President Trump, who made the campaign a success.

The reality star first saw Alice's case after Mic had shared a video about her situation and since then, has worked tirelessly to support the campaign to get her freed.
