The Trailer For “50 Shades Darker” Broke A “Star Wars” Record, For Obvious Reasons

It seems the dismal reviews for 50 Shades of Grey (and barely disguised contempt between its stars) couldn't temper excitement for 50 Shades Darker.

This week, the trailer for the saucy book adaptation went online and promptly smashed the record for most trailer views in 24 hours.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the magic number was 144 million views, which is either an indication of how many people in the world wanted to see Anastasia and Christian going at it (or, maybe there was just a handful of people who watched it several million times each, which is not entirely unlikely).

The first feature trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens held the record previously with a now minuscule-seeming 112 million views over a single day. Hardly seems worth the effort.
