Are the Adorable “Star Wars” Porgs Going to Be the New Ewoks, Or the Next Jar Jar?

These things are going to be everywhere.
Depending on the age of the fan, Ewoks are either the worst thing to happen to the original Star Wars saga, or the best, cuddliest addition to a franchise that was otherwise filled with grotesque alien freaks.
As for Jar Jar Binks—another “for-the-kids” addition to the Star Wars prequels—the verdict is unanimous: We hate him.
So, what will the consensus be for the precious Porgs, creatures set to be introduced in Rian Johnson’s coming Star Wars sequel, The Last Jedi.

A new profile in Entertainment Weekly gives us a good glimpse of the Porgs, who are the birdlike creatures that live on Ahch-To, the fecund planet Luke Skywalker is seen chilling on at the end of The Force Awakens.
They were previously glimpsed in a behind the scenes reel released last month. It was then revealed that they were named by director Johnson, inspired by puffins.
At first glimpse, they seem delightful (even if we can acknowledge that these are basically Disney-branded Furbies designed to be placed under Christmas trees across the galaxy this December).
However, there’s always the possibility that they’ll be seen to diminish the otherwise solemn sequences of Rey training under Luke as the shadow of death and finality looms over Jedi-kind.
The internet is divided:

However, one ominous Tweet rings louder than them all.
So Porgs are the new minions?

Decide for yourself when The Last Jedi arrives in cinemas this December.
