Thousands of Optus Customers Are Entitled to a Refund (But Haven’t Claimed It)

Uhh, why would anyone not do this?

Are you an Optus customer?

Do you like getting refunds?

Are you pretty slack when it comes to reading emails or texts that aren’t from friends?

If you answered yes to all—or really, any—of those questions, pay close attention to the following.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) is urging Optus customers to either look back through their recent messages from the telco, or contact Optus directly, as they may be entitled to a refund on their phone bills.

Back in February, the Federal Court ordered Optus to pay $10 million in refunds to customers, based on them "making false or misleading representations about charges for digital content, such as games and ringtones, that were incurred to customers through its third-party billing service."

However, the ACCC says thousands of entitled customers haven’t actually claimed their money yet. Of the 390,000 eligible customers contacted by Optus, only 25 per cent have requested their refund.

If you think you’re entitled to a refund, and either haven’t been contacted by Optus or can’t find any previous correspondence, the ACCC says you should call Optus direct on 1800 672 501.
