This Very Convincing "Westworld" Theory May Explain What Charlotte Hale Is Up To

Spoilers… if it’s true.

There aren’t very many heroes left on Westworld.

When you take away all the humans—who the show pretty much wants you to either openly despise or assume is a robot—and newly villainised hosts Dolores and Teddy, all you’re left with is Maeve, Bernard and newly fleshed out characters Akane and Akecheta.

But still, with all those villains roaming around, few are as untrustworthy as Tessa Thompson’s Charlotte Hale.

This season, Charlotte has been one of the most unscrupulous—and inscrutable—characters on an already unscrupulous and inscrutable show.

In Westworld's "future" timeline (after the robot uprising has been seemingly quelled), we see her tormenting Bernard and extracting information from his "brain".

However, the internet is not convinced she’s being so forthright with the interrogated info. And, honestly, even when she was alone with Bernard—reluctantly revealing to him the fact she had been helping to track human behaviour at the park, for another nefarious scheme—she seemed to still be hiding more.

Basically, something’s up with Charlotte.

However, a lone tweet has maybe cracked the code, offering an explanation as to why she’s being so weird all the time.

So, if you don’t want the show maybe ruined for you, don’t forge ahead. We can’t officially call these spoilers, but if the status of Charlotte Hale is important to your life journey, and you don’t want it ruined just yet, maybe click away.

…

Okay, hi, readers who care enough about the Charlotte Hale character to seek an explanation, but not so much that they’re happy to have it potentially spoiled.

Behold:

Setting aside the fact this may just be a very convincing selection of photos contrasting young Charlie with adult Charlotte Hale, that is one very convincing tweet.

It could mean Charlotte is and has always been aware that Bernard was a robot version of her dead dad Arnold, and has been trying to protect him all this time (and is now leading her colleagues into a trap).

Or, it could be that Arnold first experimented on human-to-robot immortality with his deceased daughter, even allowing her to "grow up"—a technological revelation the show has not yet flirted with. If that’s the case, does Charlotte even know her origin, or her relation to Arnold/Bernard?

Or, maybe it’s none of these things, and the makers of Westworld are just shoehorning more Charlotte into the story than is necessary because they lucked-out by signing the ascendant Tessa Thompson mere months before she became a bona fide movie star.

We may—or may not—find out in the final episodes of Westworld’s second season.

It’s now airing on Foxtel.
