There’s Already Another "Tiger King" Show in the Works, Starring Kate McKinnon

But who will play Joe Exotic? We have the only acceptable answer.

We’re gonna go ahead and guess you have at least started—if not downright devoured—Netflix’s new true crime saga Tiger King, all about the murderous rivalry between big cat collectors in America’s south.

That’s going by the reaction of everyone on the Internet who seemingly happened upon this twist-laden documentary series by accident (or the all-knowing Netflix algorithm) and meme-ified it accordingly.

If you haven’t seen it yet, well, we don’t want to spoil anything, but that seems impossible anyway, considering the fact that the show if basically a ceaseless, seven-hour barrage of shocking, unexpected developments.

And admittedly, most of the tweets about the show are just trying to untangle its approximately nine-zillion bizarre threads.

Well, if you can’t get enough of this tale, we have great news for you: a dramatised TV series is already in the works, and has been since last November.

That’s when Kate McKinnon from Saturday Night Live began developing the show for studio UCP (who have previously developed the podcasts Homecoming and Dirty John for television). Rather than taking its inspiration from Tiger King, however, McKinnon’s show is based on the Over My Dead Body podcast, which initially documented cat breeder Joe Exotic’s alleged plot against animal rights activist Carole Baskin.

McKinnon will produce as well as play Baskin, who, throughout Tiger King, is also revealed to have a past in cat breeding, and is alleged by some of the documentary's participants to have a few other skeletons in her closet as well (she refutes all allegations).

Now, interest in the project is sky-high thanks to the success of Netflix’s doco, so it seems pretty likely McKinnon’s Baskin will arrive on our TVs at some point in the near future.

So, who else should star alongside her? Obviously, Will Ferrell has to be Bhagavan 'Doc' Antle, another oddball cat breeder who is already a mixture of Ferrell’s character from Wedding Crashers and the Kia dealer he played in Eastbound and Down.

But who in the world can play Tiger King’s titular star, Joe Exotic, the flamboyant, gun-toting, country-singing cat wrangler? Well, we can think of no one finer than Joe himself. In fact, we insist this be made a part of his sentence. You have our demands.
